Abstract

Prudential standards are developed for banking sector to protect banks, thereby, protecting depositors. However, despite the fact, that some of these standards, which are adopted and applied for more than two decades, such as the Basel standards. Nevertheless, it was developed frequently, moving from Basel 1, then Basel 2, and finally Basel 3, after the recent global financial crisis, which caused the collapse and the bankruptcy of several banks in the world. So different countries sought to adopt these standards and keep up with its developments, in order to protect their banks, despite that its application is not an obligation even for members States of the Basel Committee In this paper, we will discuss by study the well-known and the used prudential standards in the world, And then, we attempt to look for these standards in the case of the Algerian banking system, in order to know the extent of their application and keep up in this system, through legal and regulatory provisions governing the banking sector in Algeria
