Résumé: | Friction welding is a solid state process assignment; currently it is well established as a known method for welding similar and dissimilar metals. It is widely used in automotive and aerospace industrial applications. This process uses a machine that is designed to convert mechanical energy into heat generated by friction between two contacting parts using relative motion between the parts. The heat required for welding is generated without the use of electrical energy or heat from other external sources.
In this study, we focus on the presentation of the effect of the friction welding process on the mechanical (tensile strength, bending, hardness, fatigue ...) and metallurgical (microstructure) properties of similar and dissimilar materials. Emphasis is placed on the joining mechanism in rotary friction welding and the properties of the heat affected weld zone (HAZ).
It will be seen that friction welding is a process which can produce welds of similar or better strength than that of the base material |
