Résumé: | The brittle fracture of glass is due to the presence of defects on its surface which serve as stress concentration points.
In this work, we conducted a comparative experimental study of soda-lime glass before and after chemical quenching, which allows thermochemical treatment by ion exchange to improve the surface properties of glass. This work was carried out in two stages: The first step consists of chemical tempering carried out with different holding times on the glass, and the second step being the characterization of the glass before and after the thermochemical treatment and which consists of the determination of the microhardness, the characterization by atomic force microscopy (AFM), the analysis of the chemical composition of glass by X-ray florescence (FRX), the determination of the surface degradation by the erosion test by sandblasting, the study of some optical properties of the glass such as the optical transmittance and the index of refraction. |
