Résumé: Plant-based fiber composites are increasingly found in industrial applications and their uses are increasing day by day. The main reasons are the availability of a wide range of plant fibers, environmental friendliness and recyclability when combined with suitable polymers. The incorporation of plant fibers into thermoplastic or thermosetting materials to replace glass fibers is a concept that is beginning to be industrialized and marketed. Composites reinforced with vegetable fibers find their applications in the manufacture of the interiors of several brands of cars, small boats, kayaks and even in woodwork and constructions in civil engineering or in secondary structures of various applications that meet the concern for the preservation of the environment. In this work, we are initially interested in the preparation of treated and untreated plant-reinforced composites. The various treatments are carried out using a solution of caustic soda (NaOH). The treatment temperatures are 50 C, 75 C and 100 C for 1 hour. Jute polyester composite sheets are produced by contact molding under a vacuum pump. The shear tests are carried out on standardized specimens. The mechanical characterization in shear is made on prismatic samples. The observation of the fracture facies is carried out by optical and scanning electron microscopy. Finally, the comparison of the different measured characteristics is made. The results obtained show that the reinforced composite treated at 50° C. exhibits better performance.
