Résumé: Transparent materials such as glass and ceramics take a large interest in various fields due to their unique and versatile properties. The quality of the surface of these materials is crucial as it influences their mechanical and optical properties, owing to their interaction with the environment. Hence, surface treatments, particularly the deposition of transparent coatings, are of paramount importance. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of a transparent SiO2-ZrO2 coating on the properties of various transparent materials such as soda-lime glass, crown glass, flint glass, Zerodur, and transparent spinel MgAl2O4. To achieve this, optical and mechanical characterization of the samples was conducted before and after coating to detect any improvements. Additionally, indentation defects were intentionally created to evaluate the coating's effect on correcting these flaws. The results showed that the SiO2-ZrO2 coating significantly enhances the optical and mechanical properties, particularly the transmission and hardness, of the materials studied. Although the indentation defects are not completely corrected, they are partially filled and specifically.
