Abstract

Abstract The main objective of this dissertation was to understand the factorscontributing to astigmatism, itsconsequences and the differentapproaches to itstreatment in order to develop effective strategies for managingthisanomaly, specifically at olderages. Our workwascarried out using data from 80 patients. The resultsobtained made it possible to conclude for thisstudythat: The underlying causes of astigmatismvarydepending on the age at which the anomalydevelops. For thosewhodevelopedastigmatism in childhood, geneticfactorswere a major cause, whereas in adults, the factorsvary. Visual acuity varies significantlydepending on the age at whichastigmatismdevelops, progressive deterioration of vision and adjustment to the visual changes associatedwithagingcanbeparticularlydifficult. Preferences for astigmatismtreatmentsvarydepending on age of onset and age groups. Improvement in visualacuity by almostsimilartreatmentsdepending on age. Early and appropriatetreatmentis essential to prevent complications and improvevisualoutcomes. Preventioninvolvesregular screening, especiallyamongchildren, and education on the importance of regulareye exams.
