Résumé: Abstract :Medical glass often undergo specialized treatments such as anti-reflective, scratchresistant and other coatings, each aimed at improving a specific property while maintaining optimum optical performance. However, the durability of these coatings is a constant challenge : they must withstand daily wear and tear, varied environmental conditions and frequent handling without compromising their essential characteristics. This work has contributed to our understanding of the technical and scientific aspects of ophthalmic lens surface coatings, with particular emphasis on their durability and long-term performance. Six types of lenses we prepared in the Novatis laboratories were compared: uncoated lenses, lenses with hardened coatings (HC) and lenses with anti-reflective coatings (HMC): perfct blue, perfct clean, drive and chromeleon. The results show that the uncoated lenses showed poor durability. They deteriorated rapidly from the very first test, with the noticeable appearance of scratches. Application of the hardened coating (HC) increased the hardness of the lenses. Compared with uncoated lenses, they showed improved scratch resistance and durability. Anti-reflective coating (HMC) was the most effective. HMC lenses proved more durable than the other two types. Theyproved more resistant to abrasion and scratches.
