Effet insecticide des plantes melia azedarach L. et peganum harmala L. sur l'insecte des céréales stockées tribolium castaneum herbst : Coleoptera,tenebrionidae

Abstract

In attempt to elaborate a strategy of integrated pest management on grain cereals storedin Algeria, insecticidal activities of powders fruits from Melia azedarach L. and seedsfrom Peganum harmala L. against larvae and adults of Tribolium castaneum Herbstwere carried under laboratory conditions. The powders were mixed with grain ofTriticum durum at 10, 15 and 30 % doses. There was a significant mortality effect, thepercentage mortality increasing with plants species, duration of treatment andconcentration. A 100 % of mortality was obtained after 9 and 14 days of treatment forlarvae and after 10 and 16 days of treatment for adults with concentration 30 %,respectively from Melia azedarach and Peganum harmala. Melia azedarach causedhighest and significant mortality at all concentrations, and it is proved that larvae aremore sensitive than adults for both plants. TL50 shows that the shortest time is obtainedwith the powder fruits from fruits powder from Melia azedarach at 30 % ofconcentrations (3,9 days for larvae and 5,5 days for adults) and for powder fruits fromPeganum harmala at the same concentration the TL50 was 6,8 and 12,6 daysrespectively for larvae and adults. These naturally occurring plants could be useful usedfor managing populations of Tribolium castaneum and merit further study.
