Résumé: Polymer Clay hybrids have become a new class of materials since the past fifteen years. Their principal interests are to dramatically modify properties even with a very low content of fillers. Most of the studies report improvements of the stiffness, flammability, permeability … The purpose of this work was to study the behavior of a local material montmorillonite clay. The work involves synthesis complexes. The methods of preparation of some complexes are reported. The complex products have been further characterized by thermal analysis and infra-red spectroscopy. Structural analysis of Na-montmorillonite co-intercalated with Chloride hexadecyl tri methyl ammonium was carried out using combination of experiment: X-ray powder diffraction and IR spectroscopy. Results of structure analysis revealed the chemical reaction of guest compounds leading to the formation of Chloride hexadecyl tri methyl ammonium. This reaction may occur even before the intercalation out of the interlayer space of montmorillonite. The presence of Chloride hexadecyl tri methyl ammonium in the samples was clearly confirmed by IR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. Keywords: Montmorillonite; Intercalation; nanocomposites,Montmorillonite, organophile, alkyl ammonium, IR spectroscopy; X-ray diffraction.
