Résumé: Embryonic development is a meticulously  coordinated process in which a single &#xD;
fertilized egg undergoes a series of transformations to form a complex, multicellular organism. &#xD;
This progression involves distinct stages, each governed by specific cellular movements, &#xD;
molecular signaling, and genetic  regulation. From the initial fertilization to the formation of &#xD;
tissues and organs, developmental biology provides a detailed map of how life begins and &#xD;
evolves at the earliest stages.The journey starts with the fusion of gametes, where protective &#xD;
envelopes and reserves within the egg play essential roles in ensuring successful fertilization &#xD;
and subsequent development. Following this, the fertilized egg undergoes segmentation, a &#xD;
process where rapid cell division transforms it into a multicellular structure. Key molecular &#xD;
interactions and regulatory mechanisms then guide the process of gastrulation, positioning the &#xD;
three primary germ layers—ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm—necessary for forming all &#xD;
tissues and organs. As development proceeds, neurulation leads  to the establishment of the &#xD;
neural tube, which becomes the central nervous system. This is followed by organogenesis, &#xD;
where specialized organs form, and morphogenesis, which shapes the embryonic appendages &#xD;
like limbs in birds and mammals. Genetic control mechanisms, such as the expression of Hox &#xD;
genes, regulate these complex processes, ensuring that the developmental plan is executed &#xD;
correctly.</summary>

Résumé: Reproduction is a fundamental biological process in all living organisms, &#xD;
essential for species survival. The regulation of reproductive functions in both males and &#xD;
females is complex and finely tuned by various hormones. These hormones orchestrate &#xD;
the growth, development, and function of reproductive tissues, and they ensure &#xD;
successful conception, pregnancy, and birth. In this laboratory course, we will explore &#xD;
the pivotal role that hormones play in regulating reproductive cycles and functions. &#xD;
Through a series of experiments, students will investigate how specific hormones, such &#xD;
as estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and gonadotropins, contribute to reproductive &#xD;
health and how imbalances in these hormones can lead to reproductive disorders.</summary>

Résumé: Status of the White-headed Duck Oxyura leucocephala in Northeast Algeria. The globally threatened White-headed Duck is one the most rare duck species in the Western Palearctic. Its distribution in Algeria is mainly restricted to the northeastern part of the country and the Hauts-Plateaux. In 2013 and 2014, 694 individuals were counted. The studied sites harboured distinct numbers in winter and in summer of the two years. The p-values (KRUSKAL WALLIS test) were lower than 0.05. The Lake Tonga showed the highest numbers in winter and the Boussedra wetland in summer. The results indicated a stable occurrence in the studied areas without any difference between the two years. The PCA analysis showed a significant correlation between the distribution of this species and three following main factors: vegetation, surface area and water depth at the Boussedra wetland, Lake Tonga and Garaet Hadj-Taher. The lower occurrence in other parts of the studied areas, particularly on the Hauts- Plateaux, is mainly the consequence of drying out process and habitat degradation.
